Our Story
Mark & Jenny
Mark and Jenny Menefy have been married nearly 30 years and used to be beekeepers, as well as farmers of sheep and beef. As current kiwi fruit orchardists, Mark and Jenny are seeking a more relaxed pace of life while managing Aqua Vista for guests to enjoy all the sights and sounds of the beautiful Coromandel. The ocean is a home away from home for this family, with Mark and Jenny’s son being committed to big-game fishing, so being close to the sea and enjoying all it has to offer is of paramount importance when it comes to where they choose to spend their time. Jenny, being a happy homebody, spends her days gardening and takes pride in developing gorgeous gardens and keeping heritage chickens. With a flair for interior design, Jenny has gone to lengths to create a relaxing paradise in her own home and in the Aqua Vista apartments, somewhere she herself would enjoy a fabulous view with a drink and book in hand, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Our Story with Aqua Vista
Aqua Vista was purchased in May 2020 amid the Covid lockdown, with the intention of developing 2 independent, ground floor apartments, specifically for holiday lets with good views. Jenny and Mark saw it as their potential retirement vocation. Knowing their own preferences, Mark and Jenny saw in Aqua Vista a hidden pearl with great potential for fabulous holidays! They felt it was important to be able to take in the breathtaking view, in its various climatic moods, from the comfort of your own apartment – so Aqua Vista was the perfect spot! Aqua Vista is also a family home on the first floor, so while it is private, neighbours are just a door knock away!
Aqua Vista is located on top of a hill looking down on Mercury Bay and Whitianga township. Night lights are spectacular. It is a large, beautifully comfortable, two storey house, situated in what will be a beautiful tropical garden in a quiet residential area. Jenny’s passion project is the garden, and it is still under development. The house has a lovely, calming and relaxing air about it, which makes it very hard to leave.
Mark and Jenny used to host BnB guests on their kiwi fruit orchard and would get a lot of international guests, but not so many kiwis as you couldn’t see the beach from there. With the absence of international travellers, it all changed and the demand was no longer there. Aqua Vista provided the all popular sea views that Kiwis value, so Mark and Jenny are ready to open their doors to Kiwi travellers and anyone else looking for a little spot of heaven.
Whitianga
Whitianga is just a lovely town, plenty to do, lots of touristy stuff, beautiful scenery and a shopping centre full to the brim with character! The township boasts lots of restaurants, cafes, retail shops and a choice of different beaches in close proximity. It’s got a lot happening, so it caters for everyone.
Whitianga is also so great for holidaying because it has safe access to the open sea for fishing. The climate is mainly warm, winters short and reasonably mild, and the summers long and hot.
